Admissions

We very much welcome enquiries from prospective families with children in all year groups and are happy to help with all aspects of the admissions process.

We are now able to book tours of our wonderful school, which will allow you to appreciate the school ethos and the many opportunities our children are able to enjoy - we can't wait to show you around!  Please note that we are able to take applications for children from both our catchment and out-of-catchment areas.

We have two forms of entry to Sandford St. Martin’s Primary School – we can offer both normal Reception class entry each September, and In-Year Transfers (for all age groups) throughout the year.  All our admissions are dealt with centrally by the Dorset Admissions team – all their information on the process is available on this page https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/education-and-training/schools-and-learning/apply-for-a-school-place/apply-for-a-school-place

 

Reception Class Entry

Applications for Reception admissions officially start in the September prior to entry, with all applications going through the admissions portal.  Please note that if you are not resident in the Dorset Council area you will need to apply through your local council and specify Sandford St Martin’s as your school of choice.

We also run Open Days and are happy to arrange individual tours of the school throughout the year.

Key Dates:

September 2023- Online application portal opens for Dorset Council area residents

January 2024- Deadline to submit your online application via the Dorset Council website

April 2024 – National Offer Day.  If you applied online you will be able to log on and view your offer.  You will also receive an email from Dorset Council Admissions.  Shortly after this you will receive a letter and a Registration pack from ourselves.

June 2024 – we run our New Parents’ Information Evening and also our Stay and Play sessions for the children.

In-Year Admissions

We do currently have places available in most year groups and our team are experienced in welcoming new children into their classes throughout the school year.

What is the process?

  • In the first instance, please contact our office team at office@sandfordprimary.dorset.sch.uk or 01929 552949 and we will be happy to take your details and arrange for you to speak to one of our leadership team.  
  • All applications for admission at any other time than normal entry into Reception should be made via an In-Year Application on the Dorset Council website (whether you currently reside in Dorset or not).  
  • Through the school office you will be able to arrange visits, trial days and ask any questions you might have.  We will also send you our full Information Pack and internal registration forms.

In 2023, first choice applications were over-subscribed by more than 20%. All first-choice applications from children at Sandford St. Martin’s received their place. Our strong partnership ensures a seamless transition as your child progresses through their academic career.
