Home Learning
Each week, the children will be sent home paper-based homework, in a booklet, to build upon the children’s learning.
It is made up of;
- a handwriting task to practice (similar to those completed in class)
- 4 sentences to be written using some or all of their spelling pattern words (we teach these words and pattern daily throughout the week)
- Times table task to consolidate a times table they have previously been taught
Homework will be sent home on a Wednesday and returned by Monday, to allow time to discuss and mark together. They can bring them in sooner, if they wish to.
Alongside their weekly booklet, the children are expected to complete;
- a minimum of 3 reads a week and logged onto their Boom Read account (these are then checked weekly and children work towards rewards)
- Daily TTRS practice (10 minutes)
PE
Our PE days are on a Wednesday and Friday. Please remember that children will need to be in their PE kit, which includes:
White plain T-shirt or Sandford St Martin’s Logo
Plain black bottoms (shorts or tracksuit)
Black plimsolls or trainers
Plain black jumper
If children have their ears pierced (studs only), please ensure that these are either taken out on the day or are removed independently.
Times Tables
We use a program called ‘Times table Rockstars’ to support children’s daily practice - each child will come home with their own login and will be set multiplication and division facts for them to recall, practice and develop at speed.
The Year 4 National Curriculum states that, ‘recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12’. In the Summer Term, the children will complete the Multiplication Times Table Check (MTC) which requires them to know all of their times table facts up to the 12s and is a national test for all Year 4 pupils. Within this test, the children will be given 6 seconds to read, process and answer the given questions. There are 25 questions within this. We would like the children to use Times Table Rock Stars daily to practise these in readiness for their curriculum knowledge and for the MTC. Times table practise is most effective when it is regular and in short bursts, as this strengthens the children's long-term memory.
