Year 6

Curriculum and Assessment

Year 6 is a very exciting year with lots of learning opportunities for the children to experience. This is the final year for your child at primary school and is the stepping stone into secondary school education. We therefore have high expectations of behaviour and attitudes to learning. Although throughout the year we expect to see your child develop their independence we appreciate your continued support.

If at any time there are any quick queries please do not hesitate to come to either of us at the door. For more lengthy queries please make an appointment through the office.

Home Learning Homework is usually set on a Friday to be brought back into school the following Thursday. The usual weekly pattern includes some spelling, a Reading Journal entry, some maths and one other activity, which may be a ‘longer term’ project spread over two or more weeks.

Daily Routines and Expectations We expect children to be fully prepared for learning and will need the following items: pencil case that includes a handwriting pen, HB pencil, rubber, pencil sharpener and short ruler. P.E lessons will mostly be on Tuesday and/or Thursday afternoons and children will need a drawstring bag containing their P.E kit. Every moment of learning is precious and so we ask that all children arrive on time. We register children at 8:45 and the Year 6 doors open at 8:35.

Our curriculum overview and topic webs can be found under the ‘Our School’ heading, then ‘Curriculum and Assessment’.
