In our school, children are shared between (or divided into) four houses. Each house is named after an inspirational person who has achieved something for the greater good. These four individuals were selected after a public consultation in December 2012, a shortlist was arrived at during staff INSET, and then the final four were selected by the school council in January 2013 – our houses are currently named after Neil Armstrong, Emmeline Pankhurst, Ellie Simmonds and JK Rowling.
Every child in school is a member of a house, and siblings will always share the same house. Membership of a house links children with others across the age range and across the school, developing a broader sense of community and collective endeavour. As many curricular and extra-curricular opportunities as possible feed the house system, and children individually collect House Points to go towards a collective total, announced weekly in Celebration Assembly. House Points can be given by any adult in our community and are linked to behaviour that demonstrates our Golden Rules.
